The Magong City God Temple (now known as the Penghu Magong City God Temple) is located on Guangming Road in Magong City. It is a temple of immense historical and cultural value in Penghu and is listed as a national historic site. Together with the nearby Penghu Tianhou Temple and Guanyin Pavilion, it forms the core of the religious landscape in Magong City. 📜 Historical Background and Status • Official Temple of the Qing Dynasty: Founded in the 44th year of the Qianlong Emperor's reign (1779), it was an official City God Temple established by the Qing Dynasty in Penghu. • Multiple Conferments: During the Sino-French War, it is said that the City God manifested his power to protect Penghu, thus receiving the title of "Marquis of Spiritual Response" from the Guangxu Emperor of the Qing Dynasty, and was bestowed with an imperial plaque inscribed with "Blue Sky Over the Sea," a very rare and highly prestigious honor in Taiwanese City God worship. • Formerly known as "Magong": Magong City was formerly known as "Magong," hence the temple's name, Magong City God Temple, witnessing the city's renaming history. 🎨 Architectural Art and Must-See Highlights • A Masterpiece of "Duichangzuo": The existing buildings largely reflect the appearance after the major renovation in 1933 (Showa 8). At that time, renowned Chaozhou craftsmen and local master carpenters were invited to collaborate on the work (i.e., "Duichangzuo"), resulting in extremely delicate and varied wood carvings and structural beauty. • Magnificent Dougong and Caisson Ceilings: Looking up inside the temple, the wooden framework of the Sanchuan Hall and the main hall is extremely intricate, especially the layered dougong and exquisite caisson ceilings, considered the essence of Penghu temple architecture. • Unique Plaques and Inscriptions: * "Sea and Blue Sky" Plaque: Bestowed by Emperor Guangxu, it is the temple's most prized possession. • "You've Arrived" Plaque: A unique plaque found in City God Temples, imbued with religious admonition and philosophical reflection. • Stone Carving Art: The stone lions and drums in front of the temple gate, as well as the stone carvings on the walls, demonstrate a high level of craftsmanship through skillful carving.

The Penghu Magong City God Temple (commonly known as "Song Temple"), located on Guangming Road in Magong City, was built in 1779 (the 44th year of the Qianlong Emperor's reign) and is a county-designated historical site with nearly 250 years of history. It is not only one of the "Hepeng Gong Temples" jointly worshipped by all the people of the Penghu Islands, but also a highly representative center for underworld justice and belief in the region. … The Miraculous Manifestation During the Sino-French War: During the Sino-French War in 1885 (the 11th year of the Guangxu Emperor's reign), French troops bombarded Penghu. Legend has it that the residents of Magong, while fleeing, prayed to the City God for protection. Suddenly, a torrential rain fell, causing many French artillery shells to become damp and unable to detonate, saving countless lives. After the French army withdrew from the war, Emperor Guangxu, to express his gratitude for the divine protection, bestowed upon the Magong City God the title of "Lingyinghou" (equivalent to the Prefectural City God), and granted him the plaque inscribed "Meritorious Deeds Preserved and Safeguarded," which still hangs prominently in the rear hall. … The main deity's birthday: The birthday of the City God, the local deity "Lingyinghou," is the 6th day of the 5th lunar month. Celebrations: On the birthday, the temple holds a grand ceremony, where believers go to offer incense and pray for blessings and protection from misfortune. The Ghost Festival in the Seventh Lunar Month: The City God Temple is also a crucial part of Penghu's annual Ghost Festival in the seventh lunar month, with the saying "The City God Temple opens, the Guanyin Pavilion closes." In Penghu's traditional religious culture, the annual Ghost Festival in the seventh lunar month is always initiated by the Magong City God Temple, followed by performances at other temples in different districts, culminating in a performance at the Guanyin Pavilion at the end of the month. Therefore, a famous local proverb goes: "The City God Temple releases, the Guanyin Pavilion receives."

The most popular City God Temple in Penghu, and one of the Hepeng Gong Temples. It primarily worships the City God, who was posthumously granted the title of Marquis Lingying by the Qing Dynasty emperor. The temple is clean and tidy, adorned with numerous red lanterns, creating a wonderful atmosphere.
