北投文物館

Stumbled upon this museum while we were heading to another tea house. Luckily they had a spot availabile for lunch and was able to accommodate a vegetarian meal set last minute. (best to make reservations in advance). The meal was surprisingly delicious and flavorful. Amazing chefs for having a creative set. The museum entrance fee is covered as part of the meal plan which was a nice bonus.

The Beitou Museum was not in our itinerary. We found out about it thanks to the tourist information boards in the Beitou area. After visiting the Thermal Valley, we spontaneously decided to visit the Beitou museum. The walk, although not that long, was slightly more strenous than expected because it was uphill all the way. But the midday effort was well worth it for the Beitou Museum. The old architecture was firstly very cool, cozy, and refreshing after the hot midday sun. The museum, we found out, was one of the first hot spring bathhouses in Beitou. There is even a tiled bathing pool in one of the rooms along with excellent informational displays to showcase the history of the bathhouse and the Beitou area. The building was very much in the Japanese style with tatami in many rooms and a small stone garden too. There is a cafe inside the Beitou museum where we had refreshing tea. The staff were helpful, polite, and did their best to speak in English for our benefit. Since we had decided to visit the Beitou Museum spontaneously, we had expected something boring and dry but what we got instead was a wonderful experience - informative, visually captivating, relaxing, and refreshing. If you are touring the Beitou area, do make the effort to patronize the well maintained Beitou Museum. It cost us only 120 TWD per person.

Booked lunch at the museum. Visitors lunching at the restaurant can visit the museum with no additional charge. Museum is nice, with exhibits well maintained. Love the flower arrangements in the museum - goes very well with the entire vibe. Lunch was very good. Would recommend to try. Quite a walk from thermal Valley 😂 we went on a rainy day and most of the roads up was winding and had no sidewalk. Not much traffic so was still OK.

Really worth to spend half day here to know the history of Beitou. The tea tasting charge extra to have one matcha tea and snacks. If you have time, also can join the free tour to know more than the explanation on the wall.
